100 milion for that place? Not sure where exactly it was spent! Although being Citibank it’s not like them to not have flashy expensive premises – the outside may be dull – but somehow I’d say the offices inside are pretty lush.

Sounds like the Treasury Building. Was one of the first big redevelopments in Dublin (redev of Boland’s Mills) – and was done at the height of a bad recession – it really kicked off that area in general as the south docklands never really figured in the IFSC-centric minds of people as aplaxce suitabler for large scale offices. It’s a very cool building and the statue of the woman climbing up the sheer wall is a nice touch.

    I’d recommend checking out http://www.treasuryholdings.ie

Build the National Stadium in Cork??? That sounds waaay to good an idea – what are the chances in this, the most centralised decentralised country. What would the D4ites say if they not only had to leave their backgarden – but Dublin itself to see a game?!?

The National Conf Center in the UK is in Birmingham – so why does our National Stadium necessarily have to be in Dublin (like everything else) – god knows Limerick or Cork CC would kill to have that kind of a project come their way.

Think of the possibilities that €30m could do for the DDDA – all those extra O’Briens Sandwich outlets (should pay for a for a few franchises) and maybe (shock!) another bar in the area – bringing the grand total to three!
Think of the full colour brochures full of glossy pictures of imaginary bridges crossing the liffey – and buildings not actually designed by STW – and people … after six o’clock!

Lansdowne is in my opinion a superior location over Abbotstown – I’d way prefer a stadium in walking distance to town and more importantly on a DART line over some field with no transport links at all.

I do see D4 residents in action group not taking this lying down though… sure if we’re spending all that free Taxpayers money why not just compulsory purchase order the lot of them – what a few €Bn here and there…

Yes – I did. Good to have a translator on hand!

I imagine buildings of the Four Courts ilk would probably be considered the most expensive as they would have been built in times when the wealth was disproportionately spent and represented. Any project of a Versailles-esque nature.

Hooray! Logical choice ahoy… now if only the government can do the same for almost everything else

uPVC is also proven to cause disproportionate mass hysteria as witnessed above…

Maybe the jokes on us… perhaps this IS what a 21st century spiral helix design looks like…?

    OK – probably not.

Hmm – any clouds out today – maybe it’ll acid rain a bit.

    How about Charlie’s gaff?

Although that’s just taking the furnishings into account – he has expensive tastes!

Yeah! Cross-subsidies – hey it’s all free money anyway (the taxpayer – who’s that???).

This smells of the Infrastructural planning comptetence we’ve all come to know and love in our dear nation. There’s no money now for a traffic bridge near Red Cow so Luas is going to have to battle it out against traffic on the raod at a major junction – and Luas is supposed to allieviate the current traffic problems we have???

The only reason I ever go through the old city part of TB is because it’s on the way home – there really is no reason to attract people across Parliament St. If the area became a kind of “furniture/design” quarter that would be kinda cool – but as Paul_Moloney points out at present it’s all “haus” shops.
There’s a woman who sells flowers on a corner sometimes – usually I feel sorry for her as the passing trade seems non-existent.

Isn’t it a good thing that someone is being ambitious for Killarney? As an area it’s so important to our Tourism industry and yet the town is such a horrendous place to be in. Something needs to be done. I remember one guide describing it as “best seen from the rear view mirror”.
    [The town not the surroundings]
I don’t know the development in particular, but I know in Tralee there are big developments of similar scale going up all around that are on the narrow roads – I guess you need a good balance of vision, ambition and pragmatism when planning in these provincial towns.

Well – maybe our capital’s grime will finally pay off, and a nice thick layer of crud will be smeared over the pattern in no time. Maybe a collage of Abra, Empty Pockets and Micky D’s wrappers???

There HAS to be a good reason behind all this. But untill the reason is known – let everyone keep their eyes fixed on the pavement.

Did Ritchie stay away completely from Waterford where they were actually assembling the spike? Cos if he saw this coming off the production line and thought “oh goodie” – I’d be seriously worried. I think the spike would have looked 100 times better had they left the base unpatterned rather than inflict this on us – a shame… I guess the honeymoon is over.

    Bring back de floooosie!

I think the only promises that are being made now are the maintenance of what we have and the slight possiblility of reopening the Middleton line down south (to be used a commuter line). Is Seamus Brennan full of hot air, or is there something we all don’t know about how bad rail travel is (well pretty bad right now!). I used to go to Cork from Heuston quite alot – you always had to be there at least an hour before the train left (and then buy your €58 ticket) to get a seat. I was never on a service that wasn’t full and cramped. I doubt things have changed now. Is the minister/whoever trying to tell us that’s there’s no need for national improvements?!?
