ParticipantHmmm – so Galway is no longer your target – time to move onto Cork!
Maybe I’ll check back next week when Waterford is getting assasinated.
Limerick is an Irish city – it has it’s pro’s and it’s cons like everywhere else. It’s great that someone is defending it, but move on from the comparison type argument. It should stand up on it’s own merits. The Cork thread on this board is focused on what’s happening there alone and not how what happens there compares to elsewhere.

ParticipantCSO figures – What difference do they make? Despite that statistic, the perception of the place is still quite poor, and Limerick certainly does not give off an air of a place with such apparent wealth. I think Limerick has made tremendous efforts to change, however I get the feeling that just because there’s development it is being championed irrespective of quality. Must. Try. Harder.

ParticipantAgreed, a fabulous design. But just in terms of the Clarendons operation – it should be a bar… but it’s not. It should be a restaurant… but it’s not. You have people dropping in for a coffee next to a table being served dinner next to someone nursing a pint. A worthy template.

ParticipantIt’s the kind of cost shaving that comes back to haunt us on most of our infrastructural projects. For the sake of 400k now – 400m down the line!

Participantnope – chav-away spray sounds like the way to go.

ParticipantFor some reason 21 Lavitts Qy just washes over me. It might aswell be the flytower of the opera house. It doesn’t interest me all that much. It’s obvious money was spent on the exterior but in my opinion to no great effect.

ParticipantAgreed, however in terms of city present centre activity this is probably about as exciting as it gets (can someone comfirm/deny)

ParticipantC’mon – it’s not THAT bad. Superior to the other new apartment development nearby. Camden Wharf.
ick.

ParticipantThe Liebeskind project mooted for the Grand Canal Basin seems to be a case of cart before the horse – i.e. build a “cultural institution” then decide what to put there. It may end up there yet, which would not be the worst thing to happen. Ultimately I would prefer somewhere closer to city centre. The much discussed (on another thread) Hawkins House proposal would be my favoured option.

Participant“Dublin’s Lord Mayor Michael Conaghan believes Dubliners should be polled on whether the Abbey Theatre should be sited on the Carlton cinema site on O’Connell St in the City Centre.”
Em, sorry no! Is this not the national theatre we’re talking about – there are more than just ordinary Dubs as stakeholders on this one. Dublin City Council can make all the policy they want, and are well positioned to advise OPW, but local politics has no place in deciding the fate of a national project.

ParticipantDiaspora, it’s An Taisce Corcaigh we’re talking about here. They do not have a great track record and have built up quite a bad reputation locally.

ParticipantThe argument is that RPA has raised this as an issue ages ago, but had the Patricks Festival commitee objected at that stage would the wires be any higher now? It’s claimed three days are required to remove and reinstate the wires. If this is the case the limitation is understandable, I’d prefer the LUAS on Friday thanks. But if it’s a case of “how many corpo men does it take to dig a hole”…
What is current practice abroad where trams are in operation?d_d_dallas
ParticipantLex, who does the PR for CCC? All this talk about Cork pulling it’s socks up and renewing etc has created a sentiment that things have changed within the planners office. Certainly at management level. But it seems that more and more NOTHING HAS CHANGED. I hope I’m wrong, but I’m starting to get the impression that the Cork of 2015 will strongly resemble the Cork of 1995.

ParticipantLexington, regarding the Water St dev – visually, is it merely a slimmed down version of the original proposal?

ParticipantApparently it was a ‘difficult’ project for Wejchert to complete. If you wanna see a good example of theirs in UCC – phase 1 of the student centre next door.

ParticipantGraham,
I was in the southern capital yesterday and remarked the same thing crossing the new pedestrian bridge there – A CARPET of droppings. Must be the season for it! - AuthorPosts
