It’s highly unlikely that the metro was axed as it is the most important transport21 project. It is more likely that the luas city centre link up and extension to liffey junction was axed. Did they mention the name of the source? was it the homeless guy who hangs aroung Henry street shouting “the end is nigh”?

the luas works are going well. the bulk of the track work is set to commence at the end of this month on upper mayor street. The luas will most likely be up and running before the tower’s finished

Well if the point tower can start constructioon so quickly, why not heuston? Do you think that this project will ever get off the ground? I deffinately don’t think 2011 is realistic anyway

I’m impressed by the new plans. When can we expect a decision from the local planing authority? Do these plans still include a light rail proposal?

are there any high rises planned for Galway? I read that Iarnrod eireann plan to double track the Galway line. Too bad that the Western railcorridor will be single track and a section of the line South of Ennis floods constantly, which will lead to a very unreliable service. I can’t tell from their website if they intend for passengers to change at Athenry or have a direct Galway-Limerick service. Anyone any ideas? Either way, double tracking from Athenry to Galway is well needed as that line will be handeling intercity trains from Dublin and Limerick/Waterford as well as Athenry commuter service

do the PD’s realise that Dublin is in fact not Helsinki or Copenhagen? If this proposal goes ahead, what would’ve been the point of the expensive port tunnel? would it take on a new role? maybe become another clogged up artirial route into the city for private cars? Beside such a developement opportunity presented itself to DCC before. The redevolpement of Georges and Spencer docks were waisted. Now we have low rise low density areas that do little to combat urban spawl. Grand canal dock has proved a success however in that it is satisfactory in it’s density. I can’t imagine that developing the rest of the docks would be a worthwhile excersise. The DDDA would probably start building semi-d’s just to irritate the public and then proceed to claim more land from the sea and use it for “an exciting new high density developement”. We’ve heard this song before. Time to change the record!
