I’ve just noticed this morning that major ground works are in progress on the site next door to Aldi on Tory Top Road, Formerly Heitons. I think it might be related to the original plannning for the site for residential and other uses as mentioned in one of lexingtons old *updates*.
Pity he isn’t around to enlighten us.

    S.O.S.

What advice can you give on replacing/restoring a set of bay windows such as in the attached picture. While the timber looks sound I really need to consider the fact that it is only single glazing and I will be getting house dry-lined new heating etc. so a total replacement with new double glazed seems to be the compelling option. Other houses on the street have gone for PVC and Aluminium clad timber but they still don’t look as nice as the original timber. I am putting it all out to tender with Cork based companies so if you have any pointers on keeping the cost down i would really appreciate it.

Regarding the statue of Justice on top of the Court House….It might be my imagination, but was that missing for years?
Im not talking about during the renovations, but before that, I cant remember it being in place and there are certainly some images which i’ve seen from the 80’s/90’s which dont include the statue. Any ideas?

I remember watching it being removed about 10 years ago. A few years later I met a Dublin Art student who had come down to Cork to write a thesis about sculptures of Hibernia. She told me that is was strewn about the National Scuplture Factory in a very poor state of repair. Great to see it back in its original glory atop one of my favourite buildings in Cork.

PS. The sculpture is titled “Justice, Hibernia & Commerce” by Thomas Kirk.

What is it about O’Mahony pike architects style??

Well I think they will answer their critics with this project. 🙂 Fabulous looking development for an area that could really need a bit of rejuvination. I live close by and i would be great to have a village type amenity close by that is not totally student orientated. I just hope the CAHRA brigade wont throw a spanner in the works 🙁

Well done to Frinailla for showing some imagination.

anybody hear anything about apartments going in where the brog bar/gorbys complex currently is on oliver plunkett st? apparently the brog building is for sale for 10 million (approx)

WHAT! The Brog.. Gorbys … Gone! 😮
Where are we going to go now when we want to relive our twenties

And for apartments, hardly a suitable usage in a prime trading area. It would be much better for CCC to take it and extend the English Market which has the potential to be a major tourist attraction in the city.

opus thanks for the link – still finding it tough to minimise the images sufficiently to upload. I’ve some excellent and exclusive images of the revised Water Street development but I fear you may never get to see them if I can’t compress them enough. Oh dear!

IrfanView is an excellent program and should allow you reduce the size of your images dramatically. To reduce the file size you must Resample the image at a lower resolution (72dpi is sufficient for web) and select an image width of about 800 pixels.
Also when you go to save the newly resized image you can select a lower Jpeg quality factor eg 50% to reduce the filesize even more.

Hopefully this works for you as I cant wait to some interesting images rather than that pathetic looking offering for the Capitol Ciniplex. 🙁
