much prefer the first proposal myself, more solid looking like a european style piazza on a more human scale. I could imagine it being lined with cafes while the second feels more like a gimiky shopping centre that will be torn down in ten years.
Also thats not a new square to the north ctesiphon just not part of the development.

There are some great buildings along abbey street what will happen to these? It would be a shame to see them go

im all in favour of the metro north going to swords but with talk of cost sutting measures due to spiralling costs wouldnt it be better to terminate the metro at the airport so the thing gets built and properly, with it then later extended to swords? or at the very least get rid of the lissenhall stop and only have 2 stops in swords as opposed to 3

also is it really worthwhile bringing the metro above ground after ballymun only to go underground at the airport a mile later?

i always liked on these roads how all the houses were the same and yet all differant in little ways, although one of those front extensions you showed is crazy!by the way does anyone know why these houses only have one window upstairs?

whats the point of putting buildings on the protected structures list if some developer can just come along and knock them as usual!?

i may be wrong here but were the bikes not originally ment to be free to hire, one of the reasons for the scheme?now their charging a fee,who will get the money deceuax or DCC since the bikes are ment to be handed over to them?

how about “put rubbish in its place” and a picture of some guy throwing the DCC logo into a bin!

im tired of this northside vs southside fight,im not just talking about here but i expected people on this site to be looking for the benefit of the whole city as one rather than slagging each other.also if most these bike shelters were on the southside the argument would be “typical they get all those facilities down there the northside gets nothing”
also has anyone thought that maybe the bike shelters are planned for the areas they are because they will be of more benifit to those communities eg.many people in rathmines would scoff at the idea of using public transport so why would they use these bikes while less well of areas are more likely to use them!

well eurocycles is still there ruining a whole street… and i get a feeling they keep replacing it with a slightly bigger version every week or so just to keep the shock value(as if it needed help to do that)!

i think if they took that monstrosoty thing on on top of it off and left as is or put a smaller roof on it would look ok,not perfect but hardly award winningly awful.without that roof setback(can it be called that considering it protrudes back out again) it fits in well with the surrounding buildings.i also like the fact that despite being an add on to the old college building it doesnt try to be one and rather stands as its own building.

i think we can see time and time again from some of the examples on this thread that this sort of roof does not work on or near historic buildings

i actually really like O’Connell Bridge House and would hate to see it gone,it isnt even that great a building on its own but in the location it is i think it works amazing!true city landmark

arnt heineken and guiness both owned by diagio so maybe they made the change?

    Alek Smart:
Home Farm Road Drumcondra, recently resurfaced in one of the smoothest and well executed reestablishment jobs in Dublin.
All went well until last week when, better late than never, some contractor or other returned to the fray and dug a trench across the bottom end….after the ritual poking around they performed an ancient druidic ritual (Cant let the Hindu`s have all the fun) and backfulled the trench, topping it off with a few shovels of chippins…

Well the “Lads” have gone and the backfilling has followed the laws of Fizzicks and now lies at a level of 25-50mm below the edge of the trench which is felt by each and every Bus Passneger or Motorcyclist as they crash over the thing on the approach to the junction

sometimes you’d think that its another company thats trying to ruin the work of the others so they get all the future contracts…or maybe its some lads with too much time on their hands who dress up like workmen and just hack away at the roads and they know no-ones going to ask them what their doing if it looks remotly official!!i hope thats what is actually happening cause its hard to believe our own council would hate us so much!

thanks Graham thats a great help, im looking for a camera to take pictures of streetscapes and to capture images at night to full effect without it turning into just black with blurs.size isnt a great issue but i supose its important to fit in my pocket in case i go on a recon mission to the docklands!

i was raging when i saw the scaffolding come down and this appearing, i’ve always liked the way henry street has mainly hung onto its older buildings which make it such a nice street and thought that it was safe now that it survived the 80s. lets just hope such an out of character building doesnt set a precedent!

hey if eurocycles dont take that sign down i say we take it down for them if you know what i mean…maybe even start a campaign of terror against these offenders!!!

im not sure if this is relevant but does anyone else think the massive yellow advertising on the front of the new ilac centre completly ruins the building?

ye it sounds like a big shopping centre even the paving looks like something out of a mall and the streets in the model look alot narrower than in that image?
also i hope they dont get away with having 31% of the residential units as one beds thats insane and it happens too often in new city centre developments, its time we started planning for a city people can have proper homes in and get more familys into the city to keep it alive instead of letting developers maximise profit at the expence of a sustainable comunity.

i was on the dart past lansdowne today and i cant believe thats our national stadium one of the stands only looks about 3 storeys high, there should be someway for the goverment to bypass certain planning laws for things like this they do it often enough with the roads and as for people opposing this redevelopment do they have some love of ugly imposing concrete dumps?despite being bigger the new stadium might actually be less imposing on them, definatly less depressing!

firstly im suprised there wasnt more outrage on this forum about the removal of the trees on the citys main street, they survived the 1916 rising but couldnt survive modern planning!
secondly who decides to remove trees who has this power(anywhere),like whats to stop me going out into my estate and just chopping down a few trees?

i saw a program on that and it was amazing anyone else see it on rte,it went over all the chances the US goverment had to stop al-queda but didnt take?anyway apparantly the terrorists who did this horrible thing were wanted terrorists already but they were aloud walk straight onto the planes using their real names and all!
