why in the name of jaysus would a bus gate plan, which is not much more than a collection of A0 drawings of a few junctions, contain any of that stuff? That’s what Development plans are for, and enforcement and local democracy and y’know all those fluffy nebulous things that we don’t have.

To be fair though, the Bus Gate issue is a seperate one and one i support. I have no idea how removing the cars would make it worse? Less vehicles = more room surely? Can you elaborate (possibly on the Westmoreland st thread) as I’m interested as to how removing cars can make it worse. cool

cool. A subway on westmoreland street!

Finally some good news on archiseek.

anyway their posters are way over the top but to be honest I don’t think Thai Orchid were doing the street any favoiurs originally, as you implied. maybe it’s best to just abandon this street for the next decade while Metro North and maybe BX are under construction and we can return to it after. You could always “encourage” a few RPA contractors to “look after” any offensive signage with their JCBs…

urban design for the incontinent. I now firmly believe, after only a few years in planning, that I have heard it all….

what’s next? An urban quarter for the lactose intolerant?

As reluctant as I am to publicise, IKEA’s recruitment for its Ballymun store. One person I encountered thought they were announcing their opening on the street itself. Heartening the distinguished esteem in which the capital’s main thoroughfare is still held amongst its populace.

hmmm. IKEA might make more sense there than on a congested suburban interchange?

if only we had similar retail planning restrictions… oh wait, we did, they got torn up!!! grrrr
anyway let’s repeat the new planning mantra “sure we can’t be lettin faceless bureaucrats get in the way of creatin’ jobs in dese downtrodden times”

what would we kill for ambition like that in today;s environment?

and i emphasise “ambition” – not necessarily the construction of this itself. Or is that the problem? Over ambition in times of plenty – unbuildable applications, inertia, bust and then nothing but vacancy and dereliction.

dammit i was just driving camera-less over Grand Canal Street Bridge southbound and the view from here is pretty spectacular, as is the view from Ringsend Bridge…

I shall return around Easter with some more pics, unless some dramatic development onsite occurs and i will head back over sooner.

    Havelock Square again:

    Lansdowne Lane

    Podium over the Railway Line

    From Lansdowne Road itself

    From Newbridge Avenue

    Closer up

A reminder of the owner/tenant arrangement of the past, not sure if this is to remain

saw that and also saw a plastic barrier on one of them on Friday as it had disappeared. Think it’s gone now and we have a full bridge

Well if you’re taking all of Dublin as a wider context then surely a precedent for major, monumental public buildings strung along the river does exist.

Custom House? Probably too epic but i’m in a contrary mood 😉

kinda reminds me of the scene in Star Wars where a load of droids are lined up for selection by Luke Skywalker – all we need is a camp well-spoken 12-15 storey building to the left of R2D2 there and we have it…

I have to say this is a yes from me. As long as they get a quantum of parking in and around the zero mark. Attracting more cars here would be counterproductive in the extreme
