hmm that’s an interesting one. A single application such as this would normally be dealt with very quickly. I’d say you’re right though. They seem to be considering this as one single scheme effectively

ah that went round a few weeks ago… either there was just enough room or the mini hiace is now “public art”

Well considering I made no accusations of corruption, I’ll ignore your advice, while passively endorsing it.

I’m also confused as to your stance on taxpayers money. Fianna Fail are building 3 parallel motorways through Meath only a hairs breath apart. to serve little but commuter sprawl, adding to the costs of all that goes with a car dependent culture. So you’re happy for money to be flushed down this particular toilet but not when people try to stop this? A lesson in sustainable development for you my friend – it relates as much to pollution as it does to economic sustainability. If you ever have the pleasure of hearing Eamonn Ryan speak on this matter, you should listen carefully.

I would move on but sadly the well connected landowners of Meath have dictated that the train line to Navan would be postponed indefinitely. Talk about infrastructure deficit? no need to look at roads. Line BX, Metro North Metro West, Bray LUAS, QBCs. new buses, T2, Citywest LUAS, etc etc

The route is chosen – the road is under construction. Its interesting that you and others come out protesting at the top of your voices only AFTER the planning process was complete. Also lets not mention no one gave a sh*te about the Hill of Tara before the M3 was planned. I know because I was a regular visitor there. End of story. The road is further away then the current N3. No sympathy.

yep and sellafield is further away than that fiat uno with the dodgy exhaust in the car park, but I;m more concerned about the former. Yours is an argument made redundant a million times over.

i think he meant the canal. Would it be cheating to name every single road that crosses the canals?

Why is moving from an elevated track down into a tunnel, say after Grand Canal Dock and before Pearse, a problem? Not enough room?

If they did put the line underground it would release a large amount of prime city centre land that could be used to part finance it. For example if the Pearse stop was underground Pearse station could be sold on and redeveloped. As could Tara and all the track in between.

They could also get rid of Tara street stop altogether in favour of looping a bit further up to a cross liffey station next to the metro north cross liffey station: so O’Connell bridge stop would be the transfer point for metro north, DART, luas red and green. The Lucan luas stop might be quite close as well.

there’s already plans to develop the land over and around Tara and Pearse. Airspace is something IE have tragically failed to exploit up to now.

The DART will connect with Metro North at stephens green anyway, What you’re proposing would effectively shut the DART for the best part of a decade. That’d be one hell of an EIS to write!

yep all we need is a few more billion to spend on what would be a vanity project. It would be cheaper to dismantle the Custom house brick by brick and move it to Eden Quay than to build another rail tunnel under the Liffey!

Am I the only one not deeply offended by this bridge? I know it’s ugly but it fails to make my blood boil.

He blindly defended Ahern against all principles of ethical governance. I just saw the clip on the news. His words were:

“for the first time, and the last time, I am voting Fianna Fail”

This shows he has no political ideology or any conviction whatsoever. Is he gonna revert to FG or SF next time? Who knows. He was doing so to support Bertie’s personality against his colleagues in the media. He failed utterly to couch this support in terms of any of the issues whatsoever other than his own rampant contrariness.

My comparison to the other “independents” is fairly apt imo. The term Indepnedent is used by the two sides to put a false, dishonest cordon sanitaire between them. If Harris can claim independence after that performance, and what’s more to get away with it, is a sad indictment on Irish political culture.

Anyway, if you wish to respond again PVC, i’ll read it, but I think we should put this to bed here on archiseek, and return to matters architecture and planning. I’m sure Sue is about to post some nonsense over on that Tara thread again!

    see you there

yes but on the Late Late he ignored all the issues and led a cheerleading campaign for Bertie, against the media. He may be passionate but he’s a political chameleon who’s a danger to democracy, as the line between Fianna Fail and the Sindo has been thoroughly blurred by his rants. If he truly cared about the issues you mentioned he wouldn’t touch Bertie with a bargepole. His support for Bertie was nothing more than a dig at his fellow journalists who would honestly like to know why it was ok to use your elected position to enrich yourself.

He obviously doesn’t care that much about planning issues either, if he’s willing to support FF. And i disagree that the Seanad will prove or disprove his independence. He proved himself an apologist for backward governance, gombeenism and corruption on RTE that night. He’s as independent as Flynn and Healy Rae.

I fail to see how Harris’ appointment will benefit the one-off housing debate as you seem to be suggesting. He’s probably fogotten all about that issue by now, as it seems to have slipped off the “flavour of the month” chart. Perhaps if he’d championed the Greens in May i’d feel different.

But it’s the same Harris who went on the Late Late and praised Bertie to the high heavens one week before the election. His appointment is nothing more than a payout for that episode where he may as well have been wearing a Vote Bertie t-shirt and shaking Fianna Fail pompoms. It really brings the role of the media into disrepute. It damages Irish democracy and shows that an unstable, flip flopping ignorant arrogant blustering chameleion hack of the worst kind can rise to become a legislator.

And 10 minutes surround by FF gombeenmen like Ivor Callely in the Seanad and his views on one-off housing are liable to shift in any case.

Cheers. Yeh it had me confused. I like the last proposal best but christ you can’t have something like that! Poeple might actually form opinions on it rather than trundle past it on the DART without as much as a shrug.

weird. surely 1916 would be the first date one would think of for republican reasons. The GFA is hardly regarded as a major milestone for Irish Republicanism per se, a milestone for the island yes, but not for any particular group. And 1948 isn’t either, especially considering it was a Fine Gael govt which did it. it could explain 1798 but for the other two it’s tenuous at best. I’d find it very odd if this was the case. It’s possible but weird if true. Research!! we must find the answer

Yeah i wasn’t 100% sure if it had been reclassified along it’s full length. But it’s probably busier now than it was when it opened as the N1.

The Airport stop will form part of the Ground Transportation Centre with buses and coaches also terminating there. I initially thought the stop was gonna be between the 2 terminals. But remember these drawings show the stops. They don’t show the exits or how people will actually access it. In the case of the Airport a covered walkway is being provided around the GTC for overground pedestrians as well.

Yeh the swords thing is lunacy. Of course it should be underground with a stop on Main street. This is a cheap and extremely nasty alternative. On stilts in the middle of a National route. Accessibility me arse
