ParticipantGoing by on the bus today I noticed that the old O’Connors Workwear store was being knocked down. It’s been closed up for a long time but didnt seem to be nearly as decrepit as the very similar looking houses on North King Street which the Corporation went to great lengths to save a while ago. Which buildings are “listed” and which are’nt and who makes the decision to list a building.
Having written this now ,i’ve just thought that this demolition could be something to do with the Luas line, does anybody know anything about this?

ParticipantIts a large scheme of shops and offices by one of the Zoe Devlopments group companies. Apparently they are building a Merchants Arch type link from the Millenium Bridge to the Jervis Centre. Hopefully this will further reinvigorate this area of the city as an extention of Temple Bar (but without so many bars). Hopefully they will do something with that Bus park as well.

InactiveI see that there has conveniently being a fire in derelict buildings adjacent to this development on Ormonde Quay this morning.

InactiveApparently the building on Ormond Quay was not derelict and had an antique shop on the ground floor. It was completely burnt down in the fire, all the remains in a large pile of rubble. I’ve heard that the present owners were approached by a interested developer but were reluctant to sell, I wonder how they feel now.
