In May 2006 University College Dublin will host a multi-disciplinary conference to explore Georgian Dublin. Subjects of particular interest include history, politics, art, architecture, town planning, literature, drama, publishing, fashion, music, medicine, business, education, philanthropy and popular culture. The conference is also interested in representations of the city, particularly as a ŒCity of Empire¹.
Comparative papers are also welcome. The conference will include a forum on how the state, private institutions and individuals have behaved toward Georgian Dublin and it will consider how it has been and will be incorporated into a twenty-first century city.Abstracts of 250 words are invited from scholars of relevant disciplines. The deadline for proposals is Friday 24 February 2006. These should be e-mailed to gillian.obrien@ucd.ie or posted to Dr Gillian O¹Brien, School of History and Archives, John Henry Newman Building, University College Dublin, Belfield, Dublin 4.
