Now that the city is decked out in all its summer finery…it is very obvious to see that the haphazard way in which tress have been added to the streetscape is having a poor effect on many areas. Trees seem to have been, and continue to be, added with very little thought.

A couple of examples: the quays, wouldnt it be fab if the quays were uniformly tree lines their entire length (particularly the quays in front of the brewery which look so empty). Custom House – the trees infront of this have grown to such an extent that they block the view of the facade. College Green – both islands of trees could do with pruning, and perhaps boxed-trees.

The O’Connell Street IAP recognised the impact that the formal layout of trees can have… will the rest of the city catch up?

“Trees seem to have been, and continue to be, added with very little thought.”

At least they are being added !

Recently a lot of trees were removed from the North Quays. I e-mailed the DCC roads and streets dept. and they (very promptly) referred me to the Parks Dept, who then ignored me.

They must a have a special team that only come out at night, because the trees were there one day and gone the next. (Probably working in stealth mode to avoid the Green Party’s crack group of tree-huggers ! )

Anyway, the more trees the better…uniformity would be nice too.

I don’t know if adding trees in more parts of Dublin is a good idea. Some trees can grow up to the equivilant of 5 story buildings! imagine the protests from resident groups about these horrible trees blocking out all that sunlight!!

Bastard trees! Chop ’em all down I say!!;-)

      What ever you’re into yourself…

Trees should definitly line the quays, they’d consolidate the city so well, as well as hide many eyesores along the way.

Parnell Square is to have avenues of trees planted as part of the HARP plan, well in theory…

Parnell Street has a row of trees planted down the central island. Some trees do need pruning, you cannot see the Moore statue at College Street for leaves….
