I was surprised to see the facade of the Thing Mote, Suffolk Street, entirely removed and a new facade put up and named O’Donaghues. Given the location and the historical significance of the area, should a publician be allow change a facade like this?
They have put a kind of mock-Tudor skin on it. I don’t think there was anything too significant about the old Thing Mote facade. They would presumably have had to go through the normal planning process for something like this. If anything, I think it looks better now.
The fitout of Thing Mote dated from 1995 including the shopfront and the ceiling in best Italianite plastic, I’m delighted to see the back of it. I’m sure the guidebooks are delighted remove the paragraph for Bewleys and insert O’Donaghues.
