I am utterly disappointed and outraged that Seamus Ross has “secured planning permission to build 85 houses and 190 apartments in a parkland setting across the road from Farmleigh”
Is no green area sacred anymore?

Dun Laoghaire Rathdown County Council has granted planning permission for more than 1,500 houses to be built on Dun Laoghaire Golf Club following a marathon meeting of the council overnight.
Lots of people complaining about loss of green lung. But it was private space not much use to any non golfers. People obviously worried about congestion but at least its near dart and bus routes and Dun Laoghaire itself with all its amenities. That can’t be said for the the land between Glennamuck and kilteirnan which has also been rezoned. This is going to be a big issue in the local elections………..

Is it actually in the park or just outside it?

In the park as far as I understand it but I could be wrong.

Hmmm. I’d like to see more. Definitely not against medium to high density in the area, but the park should be sacrosanct.

It’s not in the Phoenix Park per se, which is exempt from any development.
If you know the area. This is a site – I’m almost certain – on the left-hand side of White’s Gate Road (between Castleknock and Chapelizod) as you run up to the park from Castleknock College.
I think it might be farmland at the moment but it’s certainly not open to the public.
Have to say I’m completely amazed by this. By the same token, I wouldn’t mind a house there. -

well, its not really that surprising is it. Seems like anyone can build anything they like in this country, what with new relaxed planning laws, inept, sometimes corrupt, planners, greedy developers, not to mention a fawning pre-election government , is it really that surprising that they couldnt care less about green belts, green amenities or indeed any sort of fore thought or infrastructural development which might aCTUAlly ensure a well planned and integrated urban environment. Yeah right, its depressing. I shiver at the thought of what Ireland will look like in 10years time

Ok, I thought it was in the park, a Castleknock friend told me there were houses going into the park but I didn’t believe her until I saw the Irish Times article yesterday and it said they were going to be built on the “edge of” the park. I took that as being inside edge.

assuming it is symphathetic to the setting the the numbers aren’t such as to cause a traffic problem, this seems like an ok place for housing, the area is already well served by parks.

True and its relatively high density too. So not as bad as I first thought.

There once was a plan to build luxury villas in the park, tail end of the 19th century I seem to remember. Never happened.

Don’t forget there will be a nice plot of land available when the Ordnance Survey move to Dungarvan. Mountjoy House – currently on the ‘unsafe’ list from the OPW, will surely get a new lease of life after the mapmakers are gone

Hmmm – yes, WHEN OSI moves to Dungarvan!!!

well, it is a WHEN and not an IF. 😉

Let them build houses.. let them build anything. There is a lack of everything. People need a place to live. Only an overabundance of houses and apartments will finally make these ridiculously high prices for 3rd class accomodation go down.
It’s not like you’re in a desert. There will never be lack of green spaces. Any empty patch will be green.
