There are a few proposals for new bridges across the liffey, and some modifications to existing ones. The footbridge in Liffey Valley linear park (between the Memorial park in Islandbridge and Chapelizod) has apparantly been given the go ahead …

does anyone know what it will look like?
If it ever happens (now probably quite unlikely) … the proposed metro west bridge, looks amazing. It’s a pity the original west link wasn’t as adventurous.

Are there any more in the works? Where will the Luas cross the liffey, if that ever proceeds?

Think there’s plans for one that would lead through to a redeveloped Hawkins House, not sure but might have been a Luas bridge proposal

There’s no need for a bridge connecting Marlborough Street to Hawkins Street. The Liffey will be covered in at this rate.

Re proposed bridge at Chapelizod.
I love how Chapelizod Residents’ Association says “the money would be better spent in other areas” when the subtext is that they don’t want to make it any easier for the denizens of Ballyfermot to gain access to their holy ground.

We desperately need a bridge here. It’s a damn shame that it will spoil the view down to Butt Bridge, but we need to reduce traffic through West Morland. That street needs to be pedestrianised and Luasified asap. An absolute gem of a street, but impossible to enjoy with the amount of traffic that runs through it.

dunno about that Morlan. The bridge design has it wider than it is long as far as I remember, which is not the most attractive form and I think it’s public transport only so it won’t remove the car traffic from Westmoreland street. It may just give another link for Dublin Bus to block another view down the river. We should be able to take central streets away from motorised traffic without having to provide capacity elsewhere. Gardiner St and Church st are still underused by Dublin Bus as are Pearse and tara streets. I’d like to see the assessment of the necessity of this bridge when it goes to planning before I say we “desperately” need it.

This bridge will do very little… the street on the other side is more like a lane and at peak hour the north and south keys are chocas with traffic anyway… So this bridge does not fix anything. The traffic north of the quays around Drumconda is bonkers anyway… I have no issues with a temp bailey bridge which the army could do as a training exercise for free…
This is a solution?
North/South bound
bus & shared luas lane on O’connell St
Car lane on O’connell St
Cycle lane on O’connell StIf the metro ever goes ahead bus traffic might be halfed and car usage might drop a little. They should be focusing on a interconnected car park which doubles as short tunnels

Ah sure Jaysus, you’re both right. I was thinking that north-south traffic could be directed up D’olier Street (another wasted gem of a street) leaving West Morland to pedestrians and Luas only – a utopian pipe dream, by all accounts! 🙁
Should be interesting to see how the Bus Gate works.

It’d be nice to get someone who’s not a politician and more qualified along the lines of a planner/architect/interested individual who can really push projects like this to really change the city.
How much does it cost to run an election?!!!

The only way this is ever going to work is if the Dublin bus drivers are offered the same conditions /unions and become metro/luas drivers… unions happy
When the carpark is below say 20-30% capacity its free keeps business happy
The adjoining carparks can either jump in or out business happyThe cars can have access for free but it will be restricted ect… aa kinda happy
NRA can build the car park tunnels with an architect NRA traffic engineers happy
Anyone against this has blurred vision…
The college green triangle would make it even better…
