ParticipantWell hurray to that….At long last IRELAND will have a National Stadium…as agreed by the new partners in government. Good on ye Bertie. Let’s hope it will be state of the art and ‘world class’ as the new government statement goes.
…..and ‘COME ON IRELAND’ today against the Germans in the World Cup…..prove all the begrudgers, meany mouths, cranks, Dunphy-ites and belittlers wrong. Here’s to us…. the IRISH!

ParticipantThat git Bertie better deliver on his promise now, he’s been pushing it for long enough. We need that stadium badly, the only thing that might stop it is the state of the public finances, but hopefully they can get a fair share of corporate money to help with the cost. Hasn’t JP McManus offered £50m as it stands? Sell the rights to name a couple of stands as well, that’ll bring in some more cash.

ParticipantActually unless I am mistaken I think one of the stipulations of £50m from JP is that it is used to build a national stadium, owned by the state which doesnt become commercial. So if eircom(for example) were to offer another £50m to call it ‘the eircom stadium’ then Mr McManus’ money would be withdrawn.

ParticipantThat’s true….and I think another stipulation by JP was that the stadium was to be an 80,000 seater.
