ParticipantSo how have the civic offices aged thus far, they date from 1985 (the 80’s in town, a far country, wha ? )
Are they quality or crap ?
Are they more interesting than the new STM addition on the quay ?
Speaking of the 80’s, does anyone here remember the “Jetfoil”, or the Jetfoil pub for that matter ?? If you do, you’ve lived, really lived.

ParticipantI find the attitude of the tenants far worse than the buildings. Dublin Corporation, champion of public transport, has a dedicated traffic light and box junction to facilitate access to its carpark. On top of that, doing so from Cook St. involves switching from driving on the left to driving on the right, while crossing a four-lane carriageway. This is madness, but the people who would outlaw it work in the building. The other entrance to the carpark is on Fishamble St., which is too small and blind to have such a large office facility using it as an access road.
The attitude of the building to Fishamble St. is quite poor also; walking down there from Lord Edward St. feels like entering the bowels of some large machine.
Apart from that, I think they are passable; very much products of their time. The STW block in front is, typically, very like a corporate HQ in an American suburban business park. -

InactiveShould a local authority that clamps people coming into work who have no option but to drive, be allowed to maintain a private clamp free carpark for their own use?

ParticipantThe entrance portico works well, as does the stickey-out bit at the corner with Cook St, and the parapet level.
Otherwise, the black nature of the facade and lack of relief with the windows and stone walls are rubbish.
It acts in a similar manner as the bunkers originally did, offering a blank face to the public, protecting the Corpo from the little people.
This river facade is completely non-transparent and fundementally bland & boring. -

On top of that, doing so from Cook St.I agree entirely, Frank McDonalds Saving the city deals with the construction of the Clanbrassil St route and the strange link between senior engineers of the day and use of Clanbrassil st en route to Rathfarnham and Terenure where many of them resided.
The bunkers are also nothing resembling Stephenson’s original design his 1986 Sunday Tribune article on the finished project left him scathing of the Corporation.
I also agree about STW’s blocks 3+4 being on a crossroads between American and anywhere design.
