Seasons greetings Solo, I don’t know if its some sort of mass apathy that’s taken hold, at first I thought It was just the time of year, however it does appear that since the changeover to the new format many people have either abandoned Archiseek or they just don’t find the new look that appealing. I know there was issues with redirecting the links initially but that’s been resolved, previously when you’d log on & look at the amount of active viewers there was invariably around fifty or so guests browsing & an average of five-ten registered users actively online & commenting, now its pretty much only Google[bot] whatever ever the fuck that is . .A robot computer of some description?
Come to think of it, I’m also a member of another forum where you pay an annual membership fee & when they had an overhaul like this, they didn’t lose any members, I’d imagine that the fact people had paid for the privilege they stuck with it. Archiseek is actually a better all-round & more informative option for me & my line of work than that other forum. . .Hope I’m not planting ideas in Paul’s head . .Just an observation.
Regarding your question to subscriptions, if you do make a comment on the threads you wish to be subscribed to, then as far as I know you’ll automatically be resubscribed.

The site is always quieter at this time of year – has been since day 1 – reckon its the combination of people slacking off to do shopping, meet people and clearing their workload before holidays

One suggestion I would make is the making the links back to the main forums board easier to find and read. I keep forgetting how to get back (I know its at the end of the thread). I’ll get used to it I suppose. The older format was clearer.
I like the new look that 2010 has brought though…well done. A lot of work there.

Well done for getting the site back up and running.
It is a pitty that we can’t encourage a greater public engagement with architectural/planning discussions.
Its a pity too that there never seems to be enough time to deal with all the topics that come up. You could spend a week dealing with the books that came out before Christmas alone, ‘Re-drawing Dublin’, ‘The 18th Century Dublin Town House’, there was even stuff in the papers two weeks ago that we haven’t had a chance to look at yet.
Maybe when everyone’s bored over Christmas

Hi, there used to be a start page that listed all the most recent posts, regardless of the sub-forum.
Is it still available? I just can’t find it!
It was very useful and saved having to click through all sub-forums to find the most recent posts.
Happy Christmas and a Happy new year to you. -

on every page of the main site – the latest 10 updated threads are displayed in the righthand sidebar

Hi Paul,
Sorry for finding fault with your work. I just like many others appreciate what you do. I found the subscription facility on the previous site most useful and I just seem unable to get back to that.
In short I would highlight a particular topic of interest and every time there was a post I got an email. It meant I could highlight several threads and was kept up to date without having to trawl through what for now is for me still a bit confusing a layout. Creature of habit I expect.
Has your new look forum got the facility I have mentioned and if so how do I set it up or am I back to trawling?
Thanks

I’m sure there’s a way of adding it – will take until next week though
one thing i see is:
when you post to a thread – below the submit button are some options including

Check out the grey bar at the very end of each page of a thread. There is an option marked “Subscribe to topic”

Thank you for pointing out the obvious to Solo Stephen C.
I see the RTD [“read the document”] maxim still works.
I see you’re an “Old Master” like Paul.
Should Paul not now become “August Emperor”?
Perhaps we could create a category for Solo – “Grumpy Git”…
🙂

I also nominate Solo’s Avatar to be Gollum from the LoTR.

You dont need to be so rude. If you have a bug up your ass about something then take it elsewhere. Its quite easy to miss small features on the site, especially given the large changes to the format

I wasn’t being rude – after all, I complimented you.
Solo OTOH s a colleague in RL and I have been ribbing him today about his previous grumpiness on this issue.
The humour is particularly pointed as Solo is known for his meticulous attention to detail.ONQ.

We need a link at the top of each thread, below the thread title, that brings us back to the parent forum. I’m really missing that feature! It’s a pain in the hole having to scroll to the bottom of the thread and find the barely visible link.
Are smilies gone forever now? 🙁 😀 😡 – seems like it.

The post templates states “smilies are on” but you’re just seeing the raw code.
