KeymasterWas in St Patricks Cathedral in Armagh on Saturday to see its restoration – a fine job has been done, cancelling out much of the modernisation done in the 1970s for Vatican II…. the tabernacle which looked like an upturned tooth has been removed… it ruined the view down the nave to the apse…..
instead the interior has been cleaned, and a fine understated altar inserted.. very expensive tiling has been placed in the sanctuary area – a a distinct improvement…

Bishop Duffy in Monaghan could do well to emulate this and try to repair the pigs ear he turned St Macartans Cathedral into….

ParticipantLikewise with the stunning St Patricks in Dundalk, which has just suffered a terrible fire just months after a massive restoration.
At least in Armagh the 70s altar used natural stone, in Dundalk the most pathetic twee Changing Rooms MDF structure has been installed on it’s altar, employing laser cut gothic arches, illuminated from within with a flouresent tube.
And as for the priest’s chair, dear oh dear.
