ParticipantI see St Georges/Temple Theatre is up for sale by public auction tomorrow.
Will this at last signal an opportunity to restore its distinctive spire and bells? The building extends to some 1,370sq metres, and is being advertised as a theatre premises suitable for alternative use – a few minutes walk from the ‘vibrant O’Connell St district’.
Anyone know anything about this – any suggestions for use?By far the best view of the spire is approaching the city from Drumcondra, outside the Archbishops Palace.
It is perfectly framed in the centre of the avenue of trees and gets taller and more prominent as you get closer over the slight hill.
Always has been a fond landmark for me coming into the city down through the years.
I don’t ever remember it without scaffolding so it would be wonderful to see it unveiled for the first time. - December 15, 2004 at 6:30 am #748924

KeymasterIsn’t there a story about the Royal College of Art in London, that the scaffolding was on the facade so long, it was entitled to listing?
Fabulous spire, going to cost 1.5 million by all accounts just to stabalise it.
