ParticipantOK – the Corpo is now repaving where they were excavating for the Spire of Dublin – is this just for the upcoming Christmas pedestestrians or has something more sinister happened.
Either way it’s a bizarre waste of time and money digging up the street before filling it in again only to dig it up again!!!

ParticipantI think the Corpo plan to remove the base of the Pillar (done), the Anna Livia fountain and the toilet block before Christmas and repave. Work on the Spire will start after that and be completed in April. The repaving etc will start then.

ParticipantThey have almost finished repaving the area from the spire site down towards Easons, nothing else seems to have been done (esp the Anna Livia).
Why dig it up in the first place if all they were going to do is repave now before digging it up again and then repave again

Inactiveso they’ll have somewhere to put the Christmas Tree?…the corpo’s decision making process is an absolute mystery.

ParticipantActually I notice that they have started some digging near the Garda station on Pearse Street – I am not sure if this is perparatory work for the Anna Liffey Fountain or not though.

KeymasterOh no, I live on Parkgate Street, and have to walk past the fountain at the end of Sherwin Bridge every day… its a magnet for drunks and druggies.

ParticipantThe fountain is now definitely in transit …..the sculpted figure is gone and the blocks are numbered.

Inactiveconstruction on the monument won’t start until April and won’t be finished until September next year, why does everything have to take so bloody long! ? we’ve been talking about the spike for years now.
