InactiveThe project has cost a staggering €90 million, over double what was originally intended! How that amount can even be consumed by a single building, lavish or not, one really would wonder…
I suppose the new bedroom wing and ‘spa’ consumed much of the funds.I was waiting with a group of people to cross the site entrance at the rear a couple of months ago, and stacks upon stacks of browny-red bathroom marble counter tops were being piled up alongside us – you could literally run your hand over the slinky (cellophaned) surfaces. Goodness knows the only opportunity most of us will ever have 😀
It would also appear that the Shelbourne garage in the Georgian house across the road is also finally being restored, which is great to see.

Keymasteryeah saw this too, looking forward to seeing it open again … apparently when questioned on budget & timeframe the project manager retorted with ‘it costs what it costs’ & ‘it takes as long as it takes’.

KeymasterIt is a great credit to them that they put the building ahead of the budget on this one; I’m sure there would have been a great temptation to cut corners to open in time for the Ryder Cup but to their credit they stuck with it.
I am sure that corporate Dublin will react favourably to this restoration and that they will enjoy the rewards of completing a once in a century upgrade.
