http://lnkd.in/-aZQwY | RIAI WELCOMES AMENDED BUILDING CONTROL REGULATIONS BUT CAUTIONS THAT MORE NEEDS TO BE DONE TO ENSURE BUILDING STANDARDS AND CONSUMER PROTECTION | Twelve month implementation period gives Government and Local Authorities time to get Building Control inspection systems operating effectively | Monies from Local Property Tax should be ring-fenced for building control system | Registration of builders must be part of the new system |

Of course they have, they must be dancing in the hallways….

All architectural functions are now protected to RIAI members.

The Registration Process in the 2007 Act includes Surveyors and Architects, and Engineers can also certify works.

      to clarify your post….

      only registered Building Surveyors.

There is currently 121 registered Building Surveyors on the ministers list.
      https://registrationbody.scs.ie/building_surveyors.pdf

The PM Surveyors, Land Surveyors and Quantity Surveyors are not eligible, as the Regulations relate only to Part 3 (Architects) and Part 5 (Building Surveyors) of the BCA. Quantity Surveyors are Part 4, and the other titles are not protected. Chartered Engineers come under their own Act.

Quantity Surveyors were included at the time of the public consultation but were removed thereafter.

there are approx 200 chartered consulting engineers with ACEI

i cant obtain figures for IEI but lets assume the same.

now, there are over 2600 registered Architects with RIAI, lets assume the vast majority are capable of being registered in the ministers list.

As i said, they must be dancing in the hallways of merrion square.
