Can a planner alter the description of a development when compiling their report. For example, an application for permission for ‘a single storey extension and bay window to front of dwelling’ becomes ‘porch and extension’. What are the guidelines here for descriptions of development from a planners context. Can they leave descriptions as being ‘open to interpretation?’

The description on the application must match the description on the site notices and, if permitted, the development must accord with the details submitted.

Or are you talking about the planner in the LA using different terminology from that used in the application when preparing the LA’s response? It’s not clear from your first post.

‘…open to interpretation’ is something that should be avoided at all times.

If this is the same case as the other queries you’ve posted recently, I think it’s time you got a consultant to have a proper look at it or, in the case of the conflict between enforcement and retention that you posted elsewhere, get a solicitor. Not to gripe too much, but these queries are all very piecemeal and I’d be concerned that, in the interests of saving a few quid, you’re jeopardising your chances of getting the best outcome from your perspective. There’s only so much we can do here based on scant info and a general lack of familiarity with the details of the case, and in this case it seems the details are crucial. It would probably be money well spent.

Thanks ctesiphon. I am basically in a dilemma. I’ve tried my utmost to obtain answers regarding certain planning queries from the local authority but all I’m getting is the run around. No one it seems is prepared to just answer my questions in a clear and understandable way. Hence, the reason why I try to discover them here.

As regards, securing the services of a consultant or solicitor. That too presents a problem as I’m unemployed at present and therefore that option is closed off for the time being. I wish I could. That’s the truth. It’s taking it’s toll, the planning case.

I wish that someone would legislate for reform so that when the local authority are asked a query that isn’t trivial and causes concern that they would oblige, rather than fob people off.

I understand that little snippets of a planning case posted here is not the best way to obtain full clarity, however, when something has been ongoing for almost 2 years and the information at my diposal is quite literally too much for me to endure you with. I feel that intoducing small excerpts may in the longterm provide the members here a chance of answering without complications.

Thanks for replying. I wish that the local authority staff would be as responsive.
