The Centre of Contemporary Architecture in Russia is announcing open architectural competition with international participation for the best architectural project of new Museum in Perm city, where the collections of Perm Art Gallery would move to. This will be the first Russian museum responding to the demands of the 21st century. Building of the museum should become an outstanding work of actual architecture and the most contemporary site in museum landscape of Russia.

Perm region is one of the most mighty and ambitious in Russia. Its vast territory is extended between Europe and Asia, on the boundary between Ural mountains and steppe flatland.

Perm city is the eastern outpost of Europe. Its showplace is Perm State Art Gallery, which is 85 in 2007. Pride of the collection is Russian wooden hieratic sculpture of 18th – beginning of 20th century. These amazing works of art are on the edge of sculpture and painting, Christianity and paganism. There is nothing like that in any museums of the world.

For the first time in Russia it was decided to make museum a city-forming object, built by ideology and by technologies of 21st century. New museum should become a city brand, a visiting card of the city and region, like Guggenheim museum in Bilbao by Frank Ghery, Kiasma by Stephen Hall in Helsinki, Gratz museum by Peter Cook, MXXI by Zaha Hadid in Cincinnati.
