I was shocked to see the destruction of the Capachin South Friary in Cork by a local developer who I had never heard of before this. Even more bizarely the developer had agreed to refurbish this building by virtue of not appealing the planning permission as granted.
Fr Mathew was an important figure in Irish social history and as such this building marked an important piece of ‘social history’
The reaction has been predictable

This one really pissed me off, the cheek of him. Don’t get me wrong I like my pint of Heineken but I am equally aware of primetime girl and many like her that would be better off in the pioneers.
I dug this up on a basic search it lists that in 1840 the City of Dublin had 231,500 temperance society members. It is about 60% down the page, there is also some good historical stuff on the Cork St and Whitefriar St areas.

By that reckoning over 50% of the population of Dublin must have been involved in the Temperance movement, I knew the movement was big and one can only assume that it was bigger still in Cork.
How did the Murphy and Beamish families survive this assault on their ‘god given right to make money’
This developer should be declared ‘A bad developer’ under the 2000 Local Government (Planning & Development) Act, be fined the maximum financial penalty and be so excluded from all beneficial designation by revenue commissioners for current and future schemes. Jail would be too short term for this punter.

As Treacy is a common name I can’t be sure that the details below relate to the same Eric Treacy but a google search reveals that
An Eric Treacy is an avid Golfer who won the Captains/Presidents prize at Lee Valley Golf Club in 1998.
An Eric Treacy is the principal of the Westimer Restaurant in South Mall Cork.
Discreet enquiries in the Dublin property World all led to the same conclusion he is completely annonomous. Although I’m sure Lexington knows him.
Such an act of Wanton destruction
