New website for finding commencement notices

I’m neither an architect nor a builder, but I just have a passing interest in these kind of things. I just noticed this blog post plugging a subscription service for getting commencement notices emailed to you. It’s targeted at builders/contractors but could be useful for others too. I’m curious about the price point though – do you reckon the service is useful enough to warrant this fee?
One way to find these builds that are starting up is to go around to all the planning authorities in your area of interest, and inspect any “commencement notices†that have been submitted since the last time you visited. A “commencement notice†is notification that you are about to start work on your build. All planning applications have this as a requirement.
Obviously, this can take hours out of your working week (and therefore, money), and even after you have the notice, you need to match the notice to the application and see if you’re actually interested in it at all.
The new irish plans project does this all for you. At the moment, the project covers about 17 counties, but we are always adding to this. For example, I’m working on getting Fingal added to the mix at the moment.
An account on the site costs 35 euro a month, and with that, you get an email once a week telling you of any commencements that the system has uncovered during that week.

Not an issue I imagine. The notices are already in the public domain. This service is simply organising and co-ordinating.
However, I don’t think its of much use. Most of the time a builder is pick by the time its reached commencement notice stage. at least for small jobs.

Don’t see much point in it? As Bren said, by the time you are sending in a commencement notice, building should be starting with 2 to 4 weeks, you have to have your builder specified on the notice and presumably at that stage you would have the majority of materials selected and specified.

Would be useful to the likes of window companies, mech n elec etc who already use the planning system to contact us for clients details.
If anything it would save us time answering useless phone calls.
