It would seem that some of the materials being used for the new DART platforms are not up to scratch. The new Platform edges are already cracking in many areas, and some look like they are going to fall apart in the near future. It also seems strange that in some of the stations the brick paving which was laid down during the 1980s has been removed and replaced with asphalt! I thought the asphalt was a temporary surface at first, but I am beginning to think it is permanant.

Anyone one else have any thoughts on this?

      Thanks

      Phil

Cobblelock surfaces can tend to work loose over the years & would be perfect for putting through a train window. The black of the asphalt would be a good contrast to the yellow warning line on the platform edge. (Yellow & black are about the best cobntrast for the visually impaired)
      Makes sense to me

That is a good point about the contrast, but I thought the tactil paving was aimed at doing that. I have never seen the surface which I was referring to coming loose, I just felt that it is better wearing over the years than asphalt, but then again maybe not!
