after watching “nation building” I found that it was almost constantly saying that almost everthing built in the past was an eyesore or at least this was the impression i got.But what I would like to know is whats bad and what isn’t. for example theres an old cottage ruin near my house-one of the ones made 70-80 years ago i think it’s nice and i’d like renavate it sometime. what i’d like to know is what does everybody else think about these 3 roomed cottages are they the eyesores “nation building” was refering to. please reply.

I don’t think they were referring to traditional cottages of 80 years ago, but rather the ‘Bungalow Bliss’ type of Hacienda/greek temple/dog kennel hybrid that as proved irresistable to the house buying public in the last 10 to 20 years.
At a guess the one near you is unlikely to be that bad (from a style point of view), but renovation will be a challenge – almost certainly needs a new insulated floor, and maybe form a cavity wall on the inside (to preserve stone exterior) – if it’s white, then use an external cladding system to keep out damp, keep in warmth.
