Hi spotted this developement given the go ahead some time ago (looks like something out of corporate America). Anyhow I take it this has been cancelled or am I wrong? Shame if it was cancelled, Id say the area could do with some rejuvenation.http://skyscrapernews.com/buildings.php?id=1344

      Cheers:)

This is down on East Wall Road. What makes you think its been cancelled darkman? They are undertaking preliminary works here for a major development. Anyone by here recently will have seen how the roadway has been doubles in with to accommodate the new Port Tunnel junction.

Although the developers (name escapes me) have been landbanking this area for the past 20 years they have since sublet out part of the site to Heiton Buckley and some 2nd hand car sales firm. It was my understanding that they were progressing well with their planning applications (much to the frustration of our local nimby residents association). ie. if the thing has been stopped on planning grounds I probably would of heard about it.

As far as I can surmise, they are simply not in a position to begin construction for whatever reason. The subletting of the land would indicate that they won’t be starting any time soon either.

Chris Bennett of Bennett Construction is main man here so finance etc wouldn’t be a problem. More probably they are waiting to get a good office letting before commencing work on that part of the site. And ressie prices are going up and up so they’re in no rush there either. Could be they’re planning a few revisions though.

The site is also being used as an access and spoilage site for the widening of East Wall Rd so I don’t see anything happening until that’s complete which will coincide with the opening of the Port Tunnel. My guess, October.

As for starting Merchants Gate, if so much as a theodolite makes it on site in 2006 I’ll eat my DDDA Newsletter.

They put the site up for sale in an off market deal last year but couldn’t get a buyer. I’d expect it to come back on before year end.

      Did I say 2007 ? I meant 2008, no 2009, no 2029.

I see from the DDDA master plan they want this site incorporated into the DDDA s25 sphere. I wonder would this have any bearing on the prospects of the site
