ParticipantCan anyone tell me what is going on in May Lane (between Church Street and Bow Street/Lane?).
There’s a big scaffolding arch stretching from one side of the street to another. Looks like La Defense.
Any ideas?

ParticipantFor what? It’s very high. It’s going from the roof of the new law library and across May Street over to (I think) Irish Whiskey Corner.

ParticipantSaw that myself. Not sure what it is.
The building on the left-hand side (a former pub – Church House???) appears to be derelict and the roof has been completely gutted.
The building on the other side is pretty new (early to mid nineties). Could be part of the Distillery Building. I think there’s a Spar in the bottom of it as well.
Most likely to be some form of archway linking the two buildings, if the other is to be renovated. And if that is the case, it will probably be some kind of courts facility. -

ParticipantYes, that’s it. Is the pub derelict? I thought it was just a kip.

ParticipantLast time I drove by, the pub appeared to be boarded up but because I was driving, I didn’t pay too close of attention. If you look at the roof of it, you’ll see that there are beams exposed, almost as if there had been a fire. Will have a closer look when I pass by again.

ParticipantI had a look again yesterday and the pub is definitely derelict.
However, the archway/walkway is actually spanning the road between the Distillery Building and an undeveloped lot behind the Church House.
I know this isn’t much help because we’re still none the wiser as to what is actually happening. -

ParticipantYes, I had another look yesterday and the pub certainly looksclosed. It had been open until fairly recently.
The structure on May Lane is most peculiar looking. There must be someone out there who knows what it is.

KeymasterThere was a small building on the lot at the corner, used as a small conference facility – is that still there? perhaps they have moved some previously underground pipes above ground for some work to be done to the street?

ParticipantThe Distillery building got planning approval a few months ago to add two storeys on top – doubling its height. Could be the beginning of that – but I don’t know why the scaffolding goes across the road.

ParticipantIn the absence of a definitive answer, I’ve come to the conclusion that the archway is support scaffolding to facilitate the constrction of this two-storey extension.
I don’t think anything is actually being built on the Church House side of the road. So I’m assuming they had to put this arch-like structure in place to ensure the road would remain fully open.
