Contraband
ParticipantAs you can all see I’m new on these boards and I’m not an architect, so don’t get upset when I don’t know anything. I’m sorry if this has already been brought up somewhere else on these forums, but I just wanted to ask:
Can we list the progress being made on all the major Dublin developments?
Such as:-U2 Tower – being built or not?
-The Watchtower (Point Village) – I heard that it is partially underway, but that construction has stopped. Yes/No?
-National Conference Centre – I heard that there will be no tower next to it?
-That giant man made out of what looked like metal twigs (sorry for the crap description!) Going ahead or no?
-Docklands in general
-Any other major developments (skyscrapers etc) that I haven’t listed. Also, am I right in thinking that the Watchtower was/is supposed to be the first proper skyscraper in Dublin?
Cheers!:) - August 29, 2008 at 5:01 pm #802922

InactiveU2 tower has most likely stopped i think its up for review again in a couple of months, but theres no way they will build it.
The watchtower has been stopped for 3 months to see if the housing market picks up,and theres now a good chance it wont be built.
the conference centre tower has been denied
I believe the giant man thingy is going ahead but wont be finished till 2011.
And the hueston gate skyscraper has been scraped - August 29, 2008 at 10:42 pm #802923

InactiveThese lists which pop up every several months do no good except p everyone off at failure of building ”signature building” in Dublin. 🙁

InactiveIn my view these lists risk making a mess of the individual threads.

InactiveSorry lads, I didn’t mean to upset anyone or draw attention to the fact that fcek all happens in our fair city.
Its a pity about the U2 tower and the Watchtower, I was quite looking forward to those 🙁

InactiveWell, Bar possibly the U2 tower, I wouldn’t consider any of them great losses.
I am looking forward to the stick man.

InactiveThe NCC tower was refused permission by DCC but is likely to be appealled. DCC’s decsion was more to do witha lack of time to make its decision than any particular issue with the building.

Ah that’s great news! I feel as though the docklands really need this and the U2 tower to really give the area something extra.
