Knocking Trinity

Article in this month’s Magill magazine re: the Trinity sites at the end of Westland Row. Apparently Trinity are lodging a planning application to demolish the student residence building on the corner of Pears st and build a massive new development. The article didn’t mention the architects, but could be I M Pei, as the proposal for the other side of the street was shown in a 3d model.
The article says that the numbers make sense for Trinity – but surely there’s a sustainability ethics issue? Knocking a 6 storey building 6 years after completion?
Interesting – so many buildings seem to be put up with the intention of redeveloping within a relatively short period of time (the City of London factor maybe). But to be honest the present occupant of that site was a poor effort to begin with – especially at pavement level. Coupled with the vacanty areas to its rear and across Westland Row, its probably best they demolish it and introduce a new landmark feature in its place
