InactiveEach year we put on a “Songs of Ireland ” show that is always sold out. This year our director would like to have an Irish hall as the main set. We have no idea what an Irish hall would look like. From our minimal research, we know that in olden times there was not much gathering and what did occur was usually in a home. Perhaps in more modern times they gather in halls, but what would they look like? Can anyone help me?

ParticipantThe standard Irish parish hall has no charm or architectural style to speak off, resembling nothing more than a large room with wooden boards and a stage at one end.

Participantperhaps a music hall would be a better option? although they were later on the scene and any images that i have seen looked quite small theatres, gilt and red velvet and all that. I have seen an image of horse racing in the Theatre Royal which shows some decoration. I would suggest that the Architectural Archive might be a good place to start looking.
