Construction of Dublin spire completed

Construction of the Dublin spire has been completed.

The sixth and final section of the 120 metre ‘Monument of Light’ was raised and secured in place this morning.

However, as the city council engineer, Michael O’Neill explained, the lights of the capital’s tallest monument will not be turned on just yet.

He said: “That will be for another day, not for today. There will be a light at the top of the spire but it will just be the aviation light for warning planes.

“That is the only light that will go on tonight on top of the spire. The other lights will be for a later date.”

note the time this was published… now i was there and i think we can safely say that the examiner was a few hours early
