Inactivedoes anyone else interested in irish design find it depressing that this site is so under-used? considering how lively the exchange of ideas is on the archeire site, what does the lack of exchange on this site say about our attitudes to design disciplines other than architecture?

InactiveProbably it says that we are blinker visioned generally lacking an appreciation of the visual arts in total, which says a lot for
indegenous Irish design. - April 2, 2000 at 8:05 am #714186

It is fairly strange, – even a provocative post by me after several months silence on this part of the board got no responses. The architecture forum has a few regulars but the traffic is not great there earlier. Of course we were all watching “Nation Building” for the last seven weeks so we might see more life now.

KeymasterRegarding Des-Ire, I’ve decided to end that project due to time pressures.
Keeping a site this size going takes a lot of effort between mailinglists, pr, additions and general upkeep. One is possible but two similar sized projects woulod have been impossible without giving up the dayjob.
So I’ve decided to concentrate on further development of Archeire itself.
For general design issues, I would recommend Creative Ireland. For visual arts issues, I’d recommend the new website of Circa Magazine – http://www.recirca.com – hop along to it and get the ball rolling on its new boards.

Inactivepaul,
really sorry that the site will be closing/finishing/ending (not sure of the correct terminology!). i checked out the other sites you recommended which are interesting but they are not half as lively or as critically informed as archeire, which is the type of site i hoped des-ire would evolve into. i can understand your reasons for closing des-ire, but it is a shame.

ParticipantYes, thanks for your efforts. Pity about the nation we built or are building.

KeymasterWell I receive no funding or cash for doing this. I’d like nothing better to be doing this as the dayjob but as it doesnt generate any income (despite its traffic), that’s impossible.
I still have the domain, and the content so I may add the des-ire information to the archeire site in the near future. So feel free to keep using this forum, as I’ll be adding some backup material and I’m hoping to persuade someone to write a column on design issues.

Inactivepaul,
do you have anyone in mind for the column? and what – if any – disciplines would they be focusing on? - April 10, 2000 at 8:10 am #714193

KeymasterWell what I would like would be someone well enough informed so as to be able to write a column that touches on a different aspect each week….. be an interesting archive to build up here.
Also looking for someone to write an architectural column as I don’t have the time or the ability.
