Does anyone know of (or preferably worked with) a structural engineering firm with the interest and capabilty of developing innovative engineering solutions? Preferably outside Dublin heading West to Galway or somewhere like that. Now, we all know about Arup and Happold and big guns but there must be samll/ med sized firms with talent, in the same way as there are many young innovative architects.

Would love to hear any opinions on the matter.

There’s a youngish guy called David Maher. He would be innovative when it comes to conservation engineering. Definitely not one on the old school ‘ring beam’ types. I don’t know if you’re looking for a suspension bridge would he be the man, he could be.

I think he’s based in Dublin but I know he has done good work down the midlands.

I can highly recommend Casey & O’ Rourke Associates http://www.cora.ie

One of the directors – John Casey – has done a lot of good work with the likes of Boyd Cody et al.

No nonsense, good engineering design, efficient and easy to deal with.
