ParticipantI said Bollards!
Just noticed today that , on the side of St Stephens Green opposite Iveagh House, all the bollards that were there until relatively recently, (as the remains of the former chain railings that use to run around the Green), are now gone. This demolition must be fairly recent, as some of the debris is still there, and in a couple of cases the gap is filled in by fresh tar.
Now on at least two other sides of the Green the bollards, or their remains after ill usage, are still there. Did not pass the fourth side.
One suspects that this move might be due to the problems they undoubtedly posed for car parking nose or tail in, but does anyone know why the bollards are no more?

ParticipantWon’t the Luas run along there? Could they have been moved for that?
I think the damage to the remaining bollards is due to corrosion of the iron chain fixings which are set into the top centre of the bollards – the metal expands as it corrodes and pops the stone – common on a lot of instances of exposed metal used with stone.

ParticipantSorry Bit vague – but where the Wolfe Tone Memorial is the open semicircular area is blocked off with Hoardings and there seems to be a lot of builders materials there.

ParticipantI can confirm that the work being undertaken here is repaving around the green. I passed by yesterday evening and saw that they have a bi-lingual notice up outline what work is to be carried out. In short it is repaving with granite and replacing the existing trees with new ones (4 metres high) – this is necessitated by the presence of a disease.

ParticipantYesterday morning a JCB was lifting out some of the bollards on the side facing the Shelbourne Hotel.
