I Am Trying To Begin My Career As A Cad Designer But To Little Success So Far. I Have My
City & Guilds In 2d & 3d Auto Cad And Have Been Sending Out Cv’s With Little Or No Response So Far. I Am Also A Qualified Electrician. Are There Any Further Training Courses I Can Take To Enhance My Prospects? I Am Practising On The Student Version Of Autocad 2005 But There Is Only So Much I Can Do At Home.
If Anyone Out There Can Offer Advice I Would Really Appreciate It.

what do you mean by CAD designer? who (what professions) have you sent cv’s to?

Who have you applied to?If you have any contacts at all you should try and first get some experience, anywhere, before applying to any big firms – employers always prefer a bit of experience. Otherwise just keep trying, jobs aren’t always easy to come by in this profession.

why is that? I would have thought that CAD technicans would be in high demand or is it a case of architects doing this kinda work first before they move on…

Well I was referring to dedicated technicians, because depending on the project engineers tend to do some or all of the detailed drawings themselves, seeing as they will be interpreting them anyway. I suppose I’m being a tad downbeat by saying such jobs are in short supply, with the construction industry booming and all, but such specialist jobs are always hard to find without the experience. Everyone’s gotta start somewhere though, so it does help to have contacts, or do commission work first. However I myself am not a CAD technician, so unfortunately my advice is limited!

I’m surprised that anyone who isnt a full-on professional is using a student version of a programme when copies of the full version abound among students and the net.

I thought you were a kind of software engineer ther specialising in the deigning of CAD programmes by the title CAD designer! I think the formal industry name is CAD technician more commonly refered to as a CAD monkey in conversation.
did you go to an agency? -

I Did Go To Several Agencys But They Could’nt Help Me As I Have No Experience… Kinda Frustrating
I Must Say!
