ParticipantHi, I want to apply to get a few acres of land rezoned and want to know what is the best way to proceed with it. The land is in Co. Meath and not far from a village.
In applying for rezoning do I have to give a preference e.g. industrial or housing or do the planners decide that?
If I don’t personally want to make the application, who would be the most suitable profession to use and what type of money do they charge for making an application? What are my chances of getting land rezoned, as I have no contacts with County Councilors or anybody like that? I would appreciate any advice regarding this matter.

InactiveYour best bet would be to contact a planning consultant- check the IPI website for members’ details. Should be some in Meath, certainly are some in Dublin. Go for a small outift rather than a big office. Consultants are well versed in doing feasibility studies for land, so any one with experience should be able to point you in the right direction.
When you say you want to get land rezoned, may I ask why? Do you think it is in the interests of the county to have it done? Is there a pressing need for zoned industrial land in your part of the county? Did you feel aggrieved during the last Development Plan preparation because your land wasn’t rezoned but your neighbour’s was?
Alternatively, you could join Fianna Fail, go to mass a few times and talk about your son’s desire to play football in the county colours to anyone who’ll listen. It’s Meath after all, that should be all you need to do to get the councillors on side, regardless of the planning reasons for any rezoning. Sure when did Meath take proper planning into consideration?
