KeymasterLiving in Smithfield, I must say that I agree completely with Frank McDonalds article in todays IT.
The buildings around the top of Capel Street that he points are, are indeed awful.

ParticipantIt’s gas is’nt it…..All the furore over the proposed developments for Smithfield (Fusano) as well as O’Connell Street ….meanwhile these mediocre crappy little developments are springing up everywhere while nobody (general public) bats an eyelid.

KeymasterThose ‘crappy little developments’ dop more damage in my opinion than the big showpiece developments.

Participantbeing a resident of barrackesque eyesore i have a number of questions with regards failure to comply with building regs….
primarily daylighting and ventilation
My living/kitchen area is about 20m2.
The solitary daylight to this room is a window of 1m2…do the regs state that
window area be 1/10th of floor area???
it complies with ventilation as all the windows open achieving 1/20th of floor area, however there is no background ventilation…..it would probably mess up the elevation (wall with holes in it might be more appropriate term) even more - March 22, 2001 at 1:08 pm #715776

ParticipantI loved in that apartment block for a year…and my GOD did i hate it!! I’m so glad someone else besides me have come out about it….
the majority of the apartment do not get ANY natural light.
Within the first few months important post had to be rerouted due to the fact that ALL the postboxes had been vandalised, EVEN the letting agents used to send the new lease agreements to parents addresses!
The car park arrangment was the most disgusting thing i have ever seen or smelt..completly over flowing.CONSTANTLY…..
Graffiti on the walls, ON THE INSIDE…trust me the outside is an oil painting to compared to the internal arrangements..
