Former Limerick Savings Bank (The Stone Jug), Glentworth Street/Catherine Street

Work has finally gotten underway over the last couple of weeks. The pebble dash has been removed from the adjoining building, exposing the original brickwork again. While they are also in the process of re-roofing it.

As for the bank, it’s stonework is currently being cleaned and re-pointed.

The Sarsfield Credit Union (05/05/2010) has also made an additional planning application (1086) to construct a structural glass guarding at the Podium to the front facade.

Sarsfield Credit Union must be one of the lucky one’s. There are plenty of CU’s out there who have absolutely destroyed their reputations.

I think that was included in the initial application aswell but was rejected as one of the conditions. I don’t see why anything would have changed now. It would just add unnecessary clutter to the front of the building.

Surprise surprise. They were probably one of the last planning offices to make files available online. They started getting lazy after only a couple of months and lately they just seem to have given up altogether. Sums up the whole organisation really! 😮

Interesting to see that around 1900, a railing fence was in place.

Looking at the sketch below one would get the impression that the building extension planned for the Glentworth Street side has been dropped?

was amazed to see the structural glass go all the way around the plinth. it does seem like overkill. surely wheel chair users can be relied upon not to lose control and hurtle off the top landing. the lift itself is ok. terrible pic in the limerick leader of the catherine st elevation with the buildings from across the street reflecting in the glass. will upload some pics when i figure out how to do so.
