Does anyone have a linkable picture of the Fermoy bypass bridge?

Sorry –
I know there are images out there – but I just don’t have any myself at the moment. It’s a pretty intensive project – but everytime I see such construction ploughing through our green countryside – I keep wondering ‘is this really the way to go?’ Subservants to the car. If only they’d spend the same sort of money on a first-rate public transport rail system or something – the car (at least in its current form) can’t be the way to go. I just keep thinking, what a waste of money. Ramble over –
anyway, in the absence of images, the link below may be of SOME use to you.
Apologises again,
Lex

It’s not going to be a Drogheda type impressive structure… think along lines of westlink.

Peel the plate off and carry on as usual, along with their 300,000 other collegues.

http://www.p45blogs.net/globaleyes/archives/002229.htmlIf you want to see a dumb bypass, try the Dungarvan one. It has become so built up that it is now faster to drive through the town again…

the dungarvan has seven roundabouts – its a fetish with town engineers everywhere- and it is often faster to drive through the town centre, less gear changes + a more interesting drive

That argument about the Enfield bypass is pretty spurious.
That road was built purely as a temporary measure and the traffic lights have no significant bearing on the throughput, changing very infrequently to allow traffic go to Edenderry. The reason it can be quicker to go through the town is because it’s a far shorter distance.
That bypass will be unnecessary within two to three years when the Westroute motorway is complete. Although a roundabout would have been marginally better, there would have been no possible justification for a flyover.
I think most people would argue that as a temporary measure, the Enfield bypass has been a resounding success.
The reason it still gets backed up is because the Galway road does not have the capacity to deal with its traffic volumes at peak times. -

I hear that the NRA plan to by-pass the Dungarvan by-pass with a bypass. Not making the same mistake twice, it’s gonna be a dual carrigeway.
Oh, and I think that someone should tell the pissed-off guy who wrote the article about Enfield that Mensa, the high IQ society, said that the irish have the highest number of people, per hundred, in their society in the world, making this the smartest nation in the world. Most of the idiots make it to NRA, thats all, which gives an impression of general incompetence to outsiders. 😀

Did I hear some pitter patter about a by-pass being built in Castlematyr. It would be a god send for the commuters to Little Island? Anyone got any details?

It’s in the Cork County Development Plan for the East Cork area. You can see this if you do enough searching on the Cork County Council website.
At present there is a significant kink in the N25 to get the road into Castlemartyr. The bypass will remove this and be a rare example of a bypass which shortens the route.
