does anyone ever hear of an artist who has ever helped an architect in designing a feature facade?

You may want to look at the Mexico city university library by Juan O Gorman. May be difficult to find info on but it has a fantastic kind of frescoed facade designed by the architect/painter himself. Thats the first that springs to mind.

Didn’t Patrick Scott have an involvement in the mosaics on Busaras, or is that slightly different to your question? (ie, what exactly do you mean by a feature facade?)

There’s a few buildings around Dublin that could benefit from Christo’s help

He wanted to do St Stephen’s Green at one point didn’t he?

The park, yes. Not the shopping centre, alas.
The story I heard a few years ago was that they wanted to ‘wrap’ the footpaths (don’t ask me about the logistics) and all was set to go, but the Corpo – as it then was – got cold feet because of the risk that the proverbial little old lady would trip, so it pulled the plug- even though Christo & Jean Claude have international insurance specifically in order to avoid such situations.
I wish I knew more about it- anyone else know?

That was attempted in 1977. The corpo as it was then saw them off though. There were sketches and the documents of the proposal on show in the Hugh Lane a few years back.

Thanks Lotts. I wonder would Dublin City Council go for it now?

yeah but technically he was an architect on the team – he quit architecture to become an artist in later years
