extension of triskel art centre

I was walking by south main street recently and spotted the construction work going on at the church beside bishop lucy park (name?) and asked a builder on site what’s going on – apparently Triskel art centre are extending into it. does anyone know what is going in there? i would guess a venue or gallery but have no details. pic’s or information anyone? oh and they’ve deconstructed that corner of the park wall too, but it has apparently been numbered and taken away to storage to allow for the movement of construction equipment for the church…

Christchurch has been deconsecrated as a Church of Ireland place of worship for a good many years. From late 1970’s it was the home to the Cork City and County Archives.
With a purpose built Archive now provided for in Blackpool, the space has been vacated for about two years.
Triskel’s development on their Tobin Street site was directly influenced by the future option to develop the Christchurch building.A concert venue/ large exhibition space is planned for the site, retaining much of the exisiting building fabric. It will be linked to the Triskel centre via a glass atrium.
Nearby, Christchurch lane will be incorporated into Bishop Lucey Park (although retained in some fashion with distinct paving. This will bring the park right up beside the church building.The project design team consists of Murray Ó Laoire Architects, Bruce Shaw Partnership and John O’Donovan Consulting Engineers. Joseph Lane and Sons are main contractors.

I hope there will still be an exit from the park onto South Main Street rather then the current arrangement where you have to go out onto Tuckey Street. I like walking through the park to Washington Street from Grand Parade.
It will be great when ChristChurch is up and running as a concert venue right in the city centre. Once the Beamish site and the City Library are redeveloped the whole South Main Street area will be much more attractive combined with the nearby Elizabeth Fort off Barrack Street and St Finbarr’s.
