Sharp disagreement emerged last night between Dublin City Council and Dublin Port over the reclamation of land to be used in a proposed enlargement of the port’s facilities.

The Lord Mayor, Eibhlin Byrne, said that expansion of the port, “would make sustainability of the bay impossible.”

Ms Byrne is a Fianna Fail Councillor for the Clontarf ward.

The Council held its monthly meeting in City Hall on Monday and voted to adopt a report into the matter compiled by its Assistant City Manager, Michael Stubbs. The report states that a proposal for planning permission in this regard is premature as it pre-empts feasibility studies from the Department of the Environment and the Department of Transport.

On the 26th of September, Dublin Port Company made an application for permission to An Bord Pleanala in relation to the development of additional port facilities with access to deepwater berths at the north eastern part of Dublin Port, off Alexandra Road, Dublin 1.
