ParticipantPlans for a new IFSC, dubbed East Village, have been drawn up by state-backed and private landholders in and around Dublin Port once the economic climate improves. Found render on Hkr architects. 😀
HKR has been appointed by a consortium to develop a framework masterplan for an area over 150 acres surrounding East Wall Road. The site is in a prime location adjacent to Dublin city centre at the confluence of several transportation routes with a tunnel link to the airport. The proposal maximises its two waterfront addresses onto Dublin Bay and the River Liffey by opening up and extending routes to these from the centre of the site. A key part of the proposal is an international business centre adjacent to public transportation routes, complemented with mixed use centres and outdoor recreational spaces. The scheme also connects to and facilitates the growth of adjacent existing communities through the provision of high-quality public spaces. Several distinct character areas are designed within the scheme through a mix of tall and small scale buildings to suit varying public and private uses.Taken from hkr.com

InactiveLooks like they found a new home for Sean Dunne’s tower in there.
Looks ambitious. Pity about the ol’ economic collapse 🙁

Inactiveconsidering how not one of the high rise proposals from the boom years got off the drawing board, I doubt this will now. Why plan a new high rise area when current schemes dissapear into planning oblivion.

InactiveI think one IFSC is enough.
Dublin already has lots of Villages, I think it would make more sense to concentrate development plans on these and reverse their declining populations. Surely they would make better palces to live/work?Is the DDDA really going to survive anyway? I know there’s another thread on that, but the business model here is surely about to collapse.

Inactiveshould the watchtower not have snuck into the right hand side of that render? Maybe not. Anyway now is the time to plan, and plan effectively. Recession can give a bit of breathing space for those not laid off in the cull so I wouldn’t dismiss anything on the basis of the current climate. Nice to see One Berkeley Sqaure find a home though

InactiveInteresting to note that HKR have gone back the ol’ watercolours as opposed to fancy schmancy digi-renderings.

KeymasterThat’s merely indicative of the level of work put into the plan – cgi would suggest that the buildings have been designed rather than an aspirational plan

InactiveOooh East Village and we had SoHo (South of Heuston – so should be SoHe?) last year – I love NY! It’s great that we can’t come up with district names of our own (but then again we’ve always done that re: Pimlico, portobello etc so plus ca change I guess)

It could be Dublin’s skyscraper graveyard. One Berkely Square, U2 tower ala BCDH, U2 tower ala Foster, U2 tower ala Zaha Hadid, throw in Dublin Central’s park in the sky and Clarence’s flying saucer also :p

How abot RingsStart seeing as it’s directly opposite Ringsend?
Seriously though Tolka would seem a suitable, if not morketing friendly, name -
