ParticipantIs the original Dundrum railway station being incorporated into the new Luas stop and how is the bridge coming along? Does anyone also know if the original Harcourt Street/Bray line was single or double track?

ParticipantYes (I think).
Bridge is finished. Tis kick-ass indeed.
Double from the width…Here’s the bridge as of this morning (in rain).

ParticipantThanks for the replies. Haven’t been since February 2002 when Taney Bridge was still in its very early stages of construction. It looks great. Will it have an official name or is it simply going to be called “Taney Bridge”?
Have seen some of your (fjp) other photos which bring back lots of memories (especially the ones of Dundrum and the city centre) as I’ve left Dublin quite a few years now. Strangest are the photos from the early 80’s – I’d forgotten how many derelict sites there were around the city.

ParticipantThe old station is being used as site accommodation during construction of the LUAS Line B and there are plans to incorporate the old station in a development which includes a transport interchange with Trams and Bus.
Theres ongoing discussions about feature lighting on the bridge which is in danger of being omitted due to costs.

ParticipantWe were talking about this the other day at home, and it’s great to hear that they’re considering feature lighting. But it’s bad to hear that it might be dropped due to cost. Surely if they’ve come this far the lighting couldn’t be that much extra???
And it’s getting really hard to photograph at night…

Here it is this morning, in a more full and balanced photograph…

ParticipantI don’t like the LUAS sign on top. It looks silly. It’s already known as the luas bridge and advertises the project admirably.
The blue and white sign wasn’t in the plans – is it a tempory fixture? Will it be possible to rent the advertising space? The loopline probably started like this. - November 29, 2002 at 2:29 pm #723029

Participantwhatever bout the sign, the bridge looks stunning…..remember seeing an image of it frank macdonald’s book and thinking it’ll never happen….just like the spire too………but they are…you can see from fjp’s first image at the top that the sign appears to be just cloth type material……….and so temporary presumably

ParticipantUm, the sign’s not cloth. And it actually lights up at night too (unless I’m totally wron). But I also presume it to be temporary, although I was disappointed to see it appear in the first place. It does take away from the bridge a little…
