InactiveYup, tommyt- First to Fourth Avenues are off Seville Place. I’ve always liked the idea that someone lives in No.1 First Avenue, Dublin 1. But there’s no Fifth over there, alas.

I can’t recall precisely where I read it. Given your knowledge of these matters I was initially fearful that I might have dreamed it, but a colleague in work confirmed that he read the same thing recently. It might have been in Saturday’s Irish Times? Sorry I can’t remember. Could also have been a fashion story rather than a business/development one.PS Re amusing street names- A friend of my mother’s used to live at 123 Easy Street in Athens, Georgia.

Obviously they’ve previously been linked to McKillen’s scheme on South Anne Street (an extension of which is planned) but I hadn’t heard that they might open on Dawson Street itself.

InactiveYes twas in the Sat papers (cant recall which one), naming names and setting many a conspicious consumer’s heart aglow. The article also quoted the DCBA welcoming the announcement and also indicating that Business Improvement Districts are on their way.

I think that Richmond Street South (from Rathmines bridge at canel to the start of Camden Street) is a disgrace – particularly so when it has such potential and occupies such an important entrance to the city centre.
There’s a huge planning application in at the moment to rebuild the whole derelict section of Richmond Street – i.e. from the laneway Gordon Place almost right down to Harcourt Road (two whole blocks). The architecture is standard noughties Dublin infill, by those prolific purveyors of same, HKR Architects. It’s on Additional Information at the moment. Details:

KeymasterThat proposal is part of a much larger masterplan to redevelop 10 acres in conjunction with DCC
It is in the master planning section
Agreed on the rest of the street it is one of the most disapointing missed opportunities in the City; there is one particularly fine shop front on the left heading into the City that one fears for.

InactiveAdelaide Road has always been one of my favourite’s when out for a Sunday walk.
Dorset St. is depressing. It’s particularly grim after dark and a miserable approach to the city centre from the airport.

Inactivei think the portebello area has great streets; harrington st, synge street, grantham st and stamer street. a relatively quiet victorian residential enclave. palmerston road in rathmines also has a very dignified, gentile air about it. favourite square: great western square phibsboro, nothing fancy just a very pleasant spot

InactiveI’d go for harcourt Terrace. For the ugliest Dorset Street, part of North King Street and Lower Mount Street.

InactiveBest = Stephen’s Green, and most of the streets running off it (Cuffe St being the exception) Nice architecture, and a nice buzz.
Worst = Talbot Street, Capel St.
In fact, not to sound like a snob, but most of the north City Centre. - AuthorPosts
