I heard someone mention that the new Smithfield Tower is either 12 or 13 storeys in height. From looking at that link above and from looking at it in reality it seems to only have 7 storeys including the ground floor. Where is this 12/13 floors coming from?
I think it’s a sneaky way of making the building appear shorter. Reminds be of Fitzwilton House. It’s 13 floors but looks more like 5 or 6 floors. 🙂

ParticipantAnyone else like Fitzwilton House? The neighbouring grey boxes are quite hideous, but I’ve always harboured a secret admiration for Fitzwilton :o. The site works quite well for it too…
Smithfield Market looks promising, especially if that purpley brick/cladding comes to fruition. Must take a wander over soon – it’s so refreshing to observe so many tall, high density buildings going up (8-10 storeys is good enough for me!). A great sense of solidity or something is generated, not sure what it is – common sense prevailing probably….

ParticipantI kinda like Fitzwilton House too.

ParticipantThe detailing on Fitzwilton House seperates it from its neighbours. What architectural style is it? Brutalist doesn’t seem right.

ParticipantThe Smithfield development by Fusano Properties looks grand now that it is finished. The tower is an attractive feature and there is a nice finish to the buildings….ie the cladding etc (especially when ye compare it to the standards of other recent schemes around the city and country). I remember all the wrangling about the height of the tower when the proposal was first mooted. Will be good now when the Summer comes and it fills up with people. Too bad the Chinese New Year festival wasn’t held there this year.

The architects A&D Werjchert seem to be quiet of late or are they doing anything major in the city or country?

ParticipantI see that point village is in “pre planning”. Does that mean that all various lines of protest have been exhausted and that construction is due to start?

Does that look good in real life ??
It’s still shrouded in scaffolding. It certainly is very dominant in the area, visible from a large swathe of the South Circular and Cork Street.

ParticipantYep Paulh I agree, I think the the Altro Vetro building is quite ugly and unattractive, else the rendering doesn’t do it justice.
Good linfo inks there.February 2, 2006 at 5:33 pm #747834kilman
Participantpaul h,
Work has started at the Heuston gate site but whether construction has started on the actual tower is another thing.A lot of trucks entering it from the Heuston side.February 2, 2006 at 6:51 pm #747835Pepsi
ParticipantDoes anybody have a website address for Heuston Gate? I would be very interested in living in such a tower.

ParticipantI was near Royal Canal Park the other day. I think they have started to construct the tower block. Can anyone confirm?

I understand that the current building works are the proposed eircom building. The rest of this site has been sold to a developer.
Heuston Gate [east side of Military Road, can not progress until alternate accommodation is aquired for the Revenue Commissioners, the Garda and the ERHA car park, who are all currently using the site.February 6, 2006 at 5:52 pm #747840-Donnacha-
ParticipantAre there any 10 + storey buildings actually under construction or about to go in to construction at the moment ?

Not many. Santy Cross in Ballymun is nearly finished, as are the stumpy Belgard Square and Smithfield Market. This tower near Fatima Mansions is topped out and I believe the Vantage building in Leopardstown is about to commence construction.
In relation to Vantage, is the tower block part included in what you are saying or will they be starting on the low rise part only?

ParticipantI don’t know.
