Inactivei do agree.
i am trying to design a city from scratch just for my enjoyment. i plan to design all the buildings. this will take the rest of my life but i am happy with that. i am struggling on whioh is the best plan. i have a few options and am leaning towards a radial plan at the moment but any comments would be appreciated.

What do people think about the “Irish” architecture on the island?

Inactiveit certainly does look like around the spanish arch. shite in other words…
and i was hoping for a more theoritical discussion. ie the advantages of the layout of garden cities over the longtitudional city.
what if we had a chance in ireland to start from scratch and build a city what would you like to see it form. the american’s have the grid which is very popular in europe after the destruction of the cities in ww2. is this the best? england had it’s garden cities after the war. did they work? what relevance to the car should be given in the centre or indeed throughout? should it be relegated to underground car parks accessed from specific points away from the main throughfares or let right into the centre?

Apartments that look like semi-detached houses on steroids, with ground floors in contrasting colours/materials and a bit of ould rubble stone thrown in for good measure- it might look crap but that’s not to say it’s inaccurate. I can’t imagine how it would feel to travel half way around the world only to find you were staying in a tax break student res.
Port of Galway, Swords, outskirts of Athlone… and now the new Irish suburbs extend to Dubai. I wonder what the commute’s like?
The best bit must surely be the artificial Giant’s Causeway though- pure class.
