To start the ball rolling, here is a picture of the Market House in Charleville (aka Rath Luirc aka Ra Luirc aka An Ra aka Rath Goggin), Co. Cork, dating from 1769

The second picture was taken about 1900 and shows the Market House with its cupula – long since disappeared.

WHat I would like to know is: what has the heritage office of Cork County Council done to secure the integrity of this building? Has it even place it on the list of protected structures – for all the good that will do?

I drove through Charleville today. Looks like the road hasnt been tarred since the day of the second picture. Its on a national route, and its in bits. Disgraceful.

The market house in Buttevant, Co. Cork

The building has been engulfed by a modern addition at the south end completely out of harmony with the original 18th.century market house. The lower arcades have been filled in. The upper chamber served as a courthouse.
